IRS Grants Tax Relief for Michigan Storm Victims

DETROIT — The Internal Revenue Service today announced special tax relief for Michigan taxpayers in the Presidential Disaster Area that was struck by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding during the period May 20-24, 2004.


The disaster area consists of 23 counties: Barry, Berrien, Cass, Eaton, Genesee, Gladwin, Ingham, Ionia, Jackson, Kent, Livingston, Macomb, Mecosta, Muskegon, Oakland, Ottawa, Saginaw, Sanilac, Shiawassee, St. Clair, St. Joseph, Washtenaw and Wayne.

          The Federal Tax Deposit (FTD) Penalty Waiver Period for employment and excise tax deposits is May 20 – June 1, 2004.

          The Extension Period for returns and other tax payments is May 20 – Aug. 30, 2004.

          The Disaster Designation for this area is “May Storms – Michigan” — taxpayers mark certain relief-related forms with this designation.
